Reading, UK, 20.04.11 — The McClatchy Company (NYSE:MNI), the third-largest newspaper company in the United States, has signed a major Atex Advertising managed services contract.

McClatchy will use Atex Advertising as an enterprise-wide advertising and accounts receivable system for managing the booking, billing and placement of all print and digital ads. With the Atex Advertising system deployed in a managed services environment, McClatchy will standardize advertising workflows and establish common processes across its 30 daily newspapers and other publications to reduce operating costs, streamline advertising processes, and enhance revenue potential with targeted print and digital ad packages.

“Throughout the entire vetting process we were very impressed with Atex’s ability to meet the requirements we set down for them,” said Terry Geiger, McClatchy’s director of corporate IT. “Migrating to a hosted Atex Advertising system allows McClatchy to continue to transform the way it does business, which is critical to future success.”

The implementation of the Atex Advertising solution will replace McClatchy’s legacy advertising management, production and accounting systems. With Atex, McClatchy will manage all order entry, financial accounting, customer relationship management, ad layout, and classified pagination in a single database—giving users at all publications an efficient and common workflow for print, web and mobile ad booking.

With a unified database McClatchy can combine all ad billing data on a single statement to improve the quality and timeliness of customer and account information updates. Analytics and statistics will also be available at the corporate, market and publication levels.  This will provide the entire McClatchy organization greater insight into its advertising business from order entry and production to invoice generation.

As a SAS-70 approved hosted solution, Atex Advertising gives McClatchy consistent system performance, application failover, data redundancy and disaster preparedness for all publications. Atex will also provide technical and software customization support to promptly deploy new business initiatives. Moreover, Atex will provide an integrated Level I and II support infrastructure for the duration of the enterprise-based installation roll-in phases coupled with managed services application support for the recently installed publications.

“We are pleased McClatchy has selected Atex Advertising to give its advertising business tools to increase efficiency and lower operating costs,” said Jim Rose, Atex Group CEO. “And with one of the largest R&D budgets in the industry, Atex is poised to continue this trend with new solutions that use latest technologies to allow ad sales staffs to reach new markets and advertisers.”
