Weiss-Druck invests in second Lithoman 96-pages and a comprehensive e-retrofit of the Geoman press in Monschau, Germany

08.07.2015 – „Progress, Innovation and Future“ – this guideline of WEISS-Druck seems to be the main reason for the trust in the groundbreaking technologies from manroland web systems since 1994. As well in the newspaper sector as in commercial printing, WEISS-Druck has evolved into one of the most modern printing companies in Germany – and still expands.

LITHOMAN 96-pages – Recidivist with Conviction
After the world`s first 96-page LITHOMAN in Monschau has started its production in 2011, the company now comes up with a second 96-page press and additionally modernizes the coldset production. Company owner Michael Weiss points out: “At WEISS-Druck, we are high flyers.“ After all, the company group, with approximately 1200 employees, wants to offer the whole range of printing technology to their customers „to achieve the best possible results. The consequences are ongoing investments and service enhancements.”

The new LITHOMAN 96-page press will be installed and starts its production in the middle of 2016. The press enables the company to react faster, more economically and more flexibly to the requirements of their customers and therewith to stay one of the most successful printers in Europe.

Fit for the Future: Electronic-Retrofit of the GEOMAN Press in Monschau
Also the GEOMAN press that has been producing in Monschau since the 90ies, will be technically updated. WEISS-Druck placed the order for the comprehensive e-retrofit in April 2015; the implementation shall be completed until September 2015. The all-inclusive package makes the GEOMAN fit for the future and secures the availability of the press and the printing quality of the products.

The retrofit replaces the obsolete Interbus Loop components for web break detection. Printing units and folder will be equipped with new sensors that help to continue the monitoring of each web individually and reliably.

Additionally there will be a retrofit of the entire press network. Due to this, the system will be up-to-date, can be diagnosed, contains a higher data transfer rate and optimizes the support of the manroland web systems TeleSupportCenter.

„The realized actions increase the production security, ensure the high quality standard of WEISS-Druck and are basis for an optimized production at the printing site“, says Frank Kreisel, Sales Manager Service Region DACH at manroland web systems.

WEISS-Druck and manroland web systems – High Performing Partners Since the 90ies
Both projects, the 96-page LITHOMAN and the comprehensive e-retrofit of the GEOMAN newspaper press, are a continuation of a long-term cooperation between WEISS-Druck and manroland web systems. A decisive factor was the trust in the reliability of the high performing business partner: “At our competitive and challenging market, quality and high utilization are of great importance. Together with our long-term business partner manroland web systems we are constantly working on providing and developing the best possible performance over the entire life cycle of our presses”, says Thomas Horst, Managing Director at WEISS-Druck, who is perfectly satisfied. “The long-term partnership, the trustful and cooperative handling and the personal service performance on site are of special importance for us”, says Horst. “The complexity of our presslines and the production runs have always been analyzed perfectly and realized without problems by manroland web systems.”

manroland web systems is also very proud about the long-lasting partnership. “We are happy about the high degree of trust we receive from WEISS-Druck. It is a great pleasure for us to support this extraordinary printer one more time in becoming more and more successful”, Alwin Stadler, Regional Sales Manager at manroland web systems, states.

A Machinery from the Catalogue
The machinery at WEISS-Druck is evidence for the trust in manroland web systems as it seems to be “live” from an exhibition hall of the manufacturer from Augsburg. There you find any press and component from the last decades.

Actually in production are one LITHOMAN S 96-page press, the second is to follow in the middle of 2016, one LITHOMAN 80-page press, one LITHOMAN 72-page press, two LITHOMAN 48-page presses and one LITHOMAN 32-page short grain press.

At the newspaper sector there are a GEOMAN press with two sections and a COLORMAN e:line that are producing in Monschau. WEISS-Druck is especially happy with the COLORMAN e:line. The press with two printing towers and one folder produces small runs cost-effectively and at full speed,  24 hours each day at full capacity.

There are two further high performing GEOMAN presslines producing at DHV WEISS-Druck at the printing site in Elsterheide, Saxony.

WEISS-Druck – A High Class Company
Founded in 1875 in Monschau as a local printing company, WEISS-Druck today looks back on one and a half centuries of company history. Thanks to a fast growth, especially during the last decades, the company today is one of the biggest and most modern printers in Germany. Including their headquarters in Monschau, the company incorporates almost 30 companies around printing, printed media and media services. This extraordinary development results from an imperturbable philosophy of the family business – today represented by Georg Weiss, who manages the business in fourth-generation. This philosophy is founded on the principles “Progress, Innovation and Future“. As their partner for realizing this, the successful company has been counting on manroland web systems since 1994.
