28.08.2018 – Tamedia, Switzerland’s leading private media group, has successfully incorporated Enterprise Aurora into their editorial processes. This completes the first phase of their “New Editorial System Strategy” project with WoodWing’s partner A&F ComputerSysteme.

The aim of the project is to simplify editorial collaboration and move Tamedia closer towards their goal of becoming one of Europe’s leading digital media enterprises.

On July 8th, two of Tamedia’s brands, Tages-Anzeiger and Der Bund, were successful in producing their publications using the new Enterprise Aurora editorial system. After only eight months of concept and development work, the project team reached the first important milestone on schedule.

A new editorial system for Tamedia

Tamedia’s project includes the introduction of the new editorial system Enterprise Aurora as a central platform for the production of all newspapers and magazines. Aurora is based on the latest standards and the web-based user interface allows for device - and location - independent work.

The introduction of Aurora as a common workspace for the newsroom will also facilitate harmonization of platforms, and standardization and automation of work processes. The editorial system was completely built in the Amazon cloud to achieve the greatest possible flexibility. The installation of the whole system can be described as a successful worldwide premier.

The "stone-carved" deadline for the rollout was extremely ambitious - especially because the system structure in the AWS cloud was largely uncharted territory for the project team. The joy of everyone involved at GoLive on July 8 was appropriately high, as the last page produced was delivered to the print shop punctually at 11.30 pm. This has been made possible by the very good cooperation in the project team, based on many years of joint project experience with A & F.

What’s next for Tamedia

Earlier this month Tamedia was also successful in converting their brand SonntagsZeitung to the new editorial system, with the plan to convert Berner Zeitung and its regional editions this fall. By the end of 2020 all of Tamedia’s titles will be produced with WoodWing’s Aurora.

This means that ultimately for all of Tamedia’s brands, content will be created independently of the channel or brand, on the shared system, and then assigned to publication channels when required.
