(UPM, Helsinki, 8 October 2019 at 11:00 EET) – UPM Communication Papers will take part in this year’s IFRA World Publishing Expo to be held in Berlin from 8 to 9 October. Every year newspaper publishers and printers gather at IFRA to learn about the latest print innovations. This year marks the first time that the IFRA will run concurrently with the DCX Digital Content Expo under the re-designed “Berlin Publishing Days” held from 7 to 10 October.

The annual trade fair is organised by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Media, which represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3000 companies in over 120 countries. As part of UPM Communication Papers’ strong collaboration with WAN-IFRA, UPM will sponsor several key events during the fair, such as the FIPP presentation by Jon Watkins of the UPM/FIPP whitepaper “The Future of Media”, taking place during the World Printers Forum Conference on 7 October.

Olaf Schwemmer, VP Sales News & Retail, UPM Communication Papers, explains the reasons why UPM values its presence at IFRA: “For our business, the IFRA World Publishing Expo is one of the focal points of the year. As a business committed to newspaper publishing and with a passion for working closely with our customers to further develop our products and services, it plays a valuable role. Sustainability, coldset printing as well as product innovations are essential elements of our agenda.”

UPM also sponsors The Print Innovation Awards, which this year will be presented on 8 October. Martin Schorn, Director Technical Customer Service, News & Retail, UPM Communication Papers, will be on stage to present the awards along with representatives from other sponsors. In an interview he gave in the lead up to the fair, Schorn emphasised the importance of continual innovation in news publishing to remain relevant in today’s changing market.

“As a reliable supplier, we believe in delivering innovative solutions that support our customers’ business. And as our customers innovate themselves through print to evolve their offering, it’s important that we as paper producers stay on top of these publishing trends and ensure that their needs can be met quickly and effectively,” Schorn points out.

Innovation is also key to delivering increasingly sustainable products and processes, John Sanderson, Manager Sustainability, says. ”Today it isn’t enough to excel only in one aspect of sustainability. You have to take a far reaching and holistic approach and develop a sustainability agenda that truly encompasses every aspect of what it takes to be a responsible paper producer.”

Through its participation in the IFRA World Publishing Expo, UPM Communication Papers upholds its commitment to remain the committed, reliable, sustainable supplier to the global publishing industry.
